Atomic physics is one of the great playgrounds of quantum mechanics. And nothing beats the excitement of playing there. Standing in the lab and doing the experiments is what we think physics is all about. And in this spirit we are always looking for motivated and talented members joining our team in the exploration of atomic physics.

Join us as an undergraduate

Working in the lab means working in many different areas at once. Building Lasers and electronics, designing vacuum chambers and optical setups, operating the experiment and last but not least exploring new aspects of physics everyday. And you will get an ideal firsthand experience of that by joining a group as an undergraduate researcher.

As a prospective honours student you are encouraged to take up a Level 3000 UROPS Project. We are glad to host UROPS, if you want to take part in an UROPS project, contact Murray ahead of time, so that we can sort out the project details. The same holds true for other arrangements such as Level 2000 UROPS or SPS projects. And for you students outside NUS: We have had good experience hosting exchange student projects of all kinds so feel free to contact us.

Do your honours project with us

Honours projects are the first opportunity you will have to get a longer project going in the lab. And thus they are a great opportunity for you. We usually only propose honours projects if we have already prospective candidates. If you are interested please contact Murray ahead of time. Be sure to do so by the end of your third year, but preferably even earlier.

Pursue a PhD with us

So you want to get real in the lab. Congratulations. A PhD in atomic physics is a memorable experience. We are embedded in the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) here at the National University of Singapore. And thus you may consider joining us under the CQT PhD Programme. If you are interested contact Murray and send him your CV and some references (preferably with recommendation letters). If we have vacancies and are interested in your application, we will discuss possible projects with you. After that, you'll start the formal application procedure.

Post-Doc Positions

To inquire for Post-Doc positions please contact Murray Barrett and send him your CV and recommendation letters and we will get back to you.
